Just when you thought good R&B music was dead, a group or singer comes along and rekindles your hope. The new R&B group is called BRUTHA and comprises of five Los Angeles-based biological brothers -- Anthony, Jared, Jacob, Cheyenne (aka “Papa”) and Grady. They are extremely talented and each member can actually sing. In fact, I have not heard such harmonizing since the Motown days.

For the past few weeks, BET has chronicled the brothers’ journey to stardom in a reality show entitled, Brothers to Brutha. The group is managed by their uncle, Donny “Drano” Harrell, CEO of Goodfellas Entertainment, and signed to Island Def Jam by the late Shakir Stewart. The first episode shows the brothers preparing to audition for Jermaine Dupri in Atlanta. The final episode will air tonight at 10:00 pm. Click here to watch archives of the show.

Brutha’s first album will be released today. I am encouraging all my readers, if you can, to support them by purchasing their album. I would love for them to sell at least 1 million albums today. It would be a great Christmas gift to a great group of talented brothers and their family. I wish them much success.

According to, President-elect Barack Obama has chosen Pastor Rick Warren, founder of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration next month. His choice has outraged the homosexual community. Source.

Pastor Warren, a supporter of California's Proposition 8 - a measure that outlaws same sex marriage in the state, set forth his grounds for opposing same sex marriage on earlier this week. The following are exerts from his interview posted on the website:

"For 5,000 years, marriage has been defined by every single culture and every single religion – this is not a Christian issue. Buddhist, Muslims, Jews – historically, marriage is a man and a woman. And the reason I supported Proposition 8, is really a free speech issue. Because first the court overrode the will of the people, but second there were all kinds of threats that if that did not pass then any pastor could be considered doing hate speech if he shared his views that he didn’t think homosexuality was the most natural way for relationships, and that would be hate speech. We should have freedom of speech, ok? And you should be able to have freedom of speech to make your position and I should be able to have freedom of speech to make my position, and can’t we do this in a civil way....

[Clarification/addition from Pastor Warren 12:15:

1. God, who always acts out of love and does what is best for us, thought up sex. Sex was God’s idea, not ours. Like fire, and many other things God gave us, sex can be used for good, or abused in ways that harm. The Designer of sex has clearly and repeatedly said that he created sex exclusively for husbands and wives in marriage. Whenever God’s parameters are violated, it causes broken hearts, broken families, emotional hurt and shame, painful memories, and many other destructive consequences. There would be so STDs in our world if we all played by the rules.

2. God gives me the free choice to follow his commands or willfully disobey them so I must allow others to have that same free choice. Loving, trusting, and obeying God cannot be forced. In America, people already have the civil right to live as they wish.

3. If anyone, whether unfaithful spouses, or unmarried couples, or homosexuals or anyone else think they are smarter than God and chooses to disobey God’s sexual instructions, it is not the US government’s role to take away their choice. But neither is it the government’s role to classify just any “loving” relationship as a marriage. A committed boyfriend-girlfriend relationship is not a marriage. Two lovers living together is a not a marriage. Incest is not marriage. A domestic partnership or even a civil union is still not marriage.

4. Much of this debate is not really about civil rights, but a desire for approval. The fact that 70% of blacks supported Prop 8 shows they don’t believe it is a civil rights issue. Gays in California already have their rights. What they desire is approval and validation from those who disagree with them, and they are willing to force it by law if necessary. Any disapproval is quickly labeled “hate speech. Imagine if we held that standard in every other disagreement Americans have? There would be no free speech. That’s why, on the traditional marriage side, many saw Prop 8 as a free speech issue: Don’t force me to validate a lifestyle I disagree with. It is not the same as marriage.” And many saw the Teacher’s Union contribution of $3 million against Prop 8, as a effort to insure that children would be taught to approve what most parents disapprove of. Can You forgive Christine Beatty?

While reading What About Our Daughters, I learned that Christine Beatty has plead guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice charges stemming from the text-messaging sex scandal case involving former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Click here for full WOAD coverage of the scandal.

As part of the plea deal, the charges of perjury and misconduct were dropped and Ms. Beatty will serve five years probation — the first 120 days to be served in jail — and pay a $100,000 fine based on her ability to pay. Also during her term on probation, Ms. Beatty cannot "attend, take or receive credit for any law school courses." (Sound effect: record needle scratching the record) You mean to tell me the state will not allow Ms. Beatty to accumulate more student loan debt to add to the $100,000 fine debt she owes the state. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment.

Can someone tell me why I feel sorry for Ms. Beatty?? I am not fond of lying adulterers. But after watching the above youtube video, I hope Ms. Beatty can rise above her ashes of humiliation.

Sidebar: Does anyone know how Mrs. Kilpatrick and the children are doing???

"May today be all you need it to be. May the peace of God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit rest in your thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight, and conquer all your fears. May God manifest himself today in ways you have never experienced. May your joys be fulfilled, your dreams be closer, and your prayers be answered. I pray that faith enters a new height for you; I pray that your territory is enlarged. I pray for peace, healing, health, happiness, prosperity, joy, true and undying love for God. [In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.]"

I am listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show while I am driving into work this morning. Guess who is being interviewed by Jackie Reid? None other than Gina McCauley, creator of the Michelle Obama Watch and What About Our Daughters blogs. Click here to listen to the interview.

Although I only caught the tail end of her interview, Gina did a great job. I am so proud of her.

Congrats to Gina and the Michelle Obama Watch contributors for a job well done.

Sidebar: Thank God for archives. I would have missed much of the interview because a certain person failed to inform me that she was going to be interviewed by the esteemed Jackie Reid. Thanks, pal. LOL. Yes, the blackberry, email, cellphone and landline are all working.

I must admit that I am not into the holiday season. My spirits have been really down watching the news concerning the massive layoffs, mortgage crisis and current economic recession. I am grateful that have a job at this present time, but I can’t seem to shake the sadness that I feel for those who are unemployed. I am especially saddened by unemployed workers who have small children.

I am infuriated by how the US government is so quick to help bailout millionaires and billionaires at the expense of thousandaires, hundredaires and noaires. It is mind boggling. Why wasn’t the government quick to return some of the tax money that they confiscate from our paychecks every two weeks??? I know they extort $2,200.00 from my check each month. Do you know what I can do with $2,200.00?? Why aren’t they quick to give us a billion dollar bailout instead of those penny checks they gave out earlier this year??? I think I am going to add Congress to my “Sit Your Azz Down” list.

Sidebar: Whew, I am glad I got that off my chest.

For the foregoing reasons, I have been in a funk. I needed a lift in my spirit.

During the Thanksgiving, I purchased two DVDs. I wanted to return both movies but could not find the receipt.

So I decided to watch one of the movies tonight while I washed dishes. The movie was entitled, THE PERFECT HOLIDAY, staring Morris Chestnut (one of my favorite actors) and Gabrielle Union among others. This movie was awesome. It was sweet and well written. The actors were believable and did not "over act." The storyline was inspirational.

I have a new found respect for Gabrielle Union. She played a more vulnerable character and was not as stiff in her acting as she has been in prior roles. Of course, Easizon Love was funny. Kat Williams acted like he had some sense and did not look like a pimp or Yzma. I did not see any tomboy tendencies in Queen Latifah. Now you know that was some good acting.

Sidebar: I was confused by Queen Latifah’s and Terrence Howard’s roles in the movie. I think they were supposed to be angels. I am not sure. Nevertheless, I encourage each of you to add this to your video collection.

Bravo to the writers, producers, casting crew and actors. You all get two thumbs up with two big toes. Great job!!! This movie truly lifted my spirits.

Sidebar: Kaiya Castillo's mother is a close friends of my former High School classmate and Sorority Sister. I am posting this information to help support Kaiya and her family.

Kaiya Castillo was born on July 9, 1994, in Plainfield, New Jersey. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a chronic lung disease, at five months of age. Cystic Fibrosis is a life-shortening disease that effects various organs in the body, especially the lungs.

Throughout her young life, Kaiya has had to endure countless hospital stays and procedures. Through it all, she has maintained a positive attitude and has continued to embody a beautiful spirit. Now at the tender age of 14, when most of the children her age's biggest worry is what to wear to school, Kaiya is fighting for her life.

Kaiya is in need of a double lung transplant that will save her life. This surgery costs in excess of $500,000. We are raising money to try to offset transplant related expenses.

Our fund raising goal is $35,000. Please help us in our fight to help Kaiya!

FINANCIAL PRAYER by Apostle Kymberly Daniels

"I pray for all your financial situations, in the name of Jesus. I declare that you are not bound by the economy of man but that you are under the covering of the economy of God. I say that you have more coming in than you have going out because the spirit of python is broken off of your affairs forever. Every wicked thing that has come in your dream life to steal your blessings is cursed to the root. Your enemies shall not devour you. You will be a bone in the throat of your enemies! I bind the spirit of the thief and say that the pink panther shall steal no more. I bind everything up and off of you that would make you look to the system of the world for provision. I prophesy a Zadok blessing upon you and pronounce a benediction of a blessing over your home. The place where you abide is under the anointing of Obed Edom. You are blessed coming in and going out. Wherever the soles of your feet shall tread, the land is yours! Whatever the palms of your hands touch will be prosperous. As you take your eyes off man and put them on Jesus, the oil of the blessing will drip from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. The wealth of wicked men has been stored up for you and you are in a place to receive it. First fruit blessings are running you down and taking you over! You will not have to run after a blessing... YOU ARE BLESSED! And you will be a blessing! You will enter into the rest of God and your enemies will flee. Instead of fighting you, your enemies will send you gifts. No longer shall the enemy hang out in your gates. Your doorposts are covered with the blood of Jesus and healing and protection shall accompany your financial increase. You will receive great increase and enjoy the blessing of it. This is your heritage from God. Be the name of Jesus! You are so full of the blessings of God that you cannot help but share them. You are contagiously blessed! The lines of the spirit have fallen upon you in sweet and agreeable places and you have obtained your portion. Your field is blessed, your house is blessed and the blessing of your heritage is running through your bloodline like a river. Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living waters because your belly is not your God. Your children's children shall forever drink of these waters because the wells of your blessing run deep and are eternal. The spirit of Achan is broken off of your household. Slothfulness and laziness are cut off from your generations. Godly stewardship is your portion. Because you have chosen to obey the commandments of the Lord and remained on His side, the ground shall not open to devour you. One thousand will fall to your left side and ten thousand to your right but no harm will come nigh your dwelling. You will never covet another man's silver and gold. Evil desires will not be your portion because you have set your affections on the things of the kingdom and sought Him first. Paying taxes will be a blessing to you and not a curse. The spirit of Caesar shall not rule over your head. You will owe no man anything but to love him. You are a lender and not a borrower. The spirit of interest will not grip your loins. I declare that you are spiritually allergic to interest. Instead of interest sticking to your loins; it will run off of your back like water on a duck. You will be debt free! Your mortgages will be paid in full. I prophesy the deeds and titles into your hands. Your credit will be A-1 and your business affairs will prosper. Your prosperity will be undergirded in love and your neighbors will want you have. The heathen will be jealous of your prosperity because godliness will accompany your contentment. You will not beg, you will not borrow and you will not covet. I come in agreement with you and decree that you are saved, sanctified and Jesus name!"

"When something like this happens, it’s really an exodus into a new prophecy,” he said.

Weeks owes more than $400,000 in rent and fees to the landlord of his church campus, according to a lawyer for Grimes-Square Executive, Inc.

On Sunday, Weeks said that amount includes late fees, attorney’s fees and interest.

Eviction proceedings were initiated against Weeks in early October. He had not made payments toward the rent since July, according to the lawyer for the landlord. A sheriff’s deputy carried out the eviction Friday.

“People do not understand the cost of running a worldwide ministry,” Weeks said.

When he spoke to the congregation, Weeks said, “It’s been a difficult journey the last 17 months.” He thanked worshipers for their prayers the past two days. The sound system was weak, making it a challenge to hear in the back rows, where people were standing.

He told his congregation he wants to pay off debt and only worry about utilities, “and pay those off too, in advance.”

A long line of church members stood up and offered donations at the pulpit.

After introductory remarks, Weeks turned the service over to guest pastor Medina Pullings, who gave the main sermon.

Church usher Eric Duffy said he loves Bishop Weeks and doesn’t intend to stop coming. “This is just a block in the road,” Duffy said of the church’s eviction. “We just got to move the block and keep going.” (Source)

Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III, the leader of Global Destiny International Ministries, held services elsewhere Friday after his Duluth church was evicted from its campus Friday afternoon.

“He hasn’t made any payments at all since July of this year,” said Stephanie Friese, attorney for Grimes-Square Executive, Inc. “The landlord did try to work out something with him.” SOURCE

"This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight's about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing: Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.

She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons - because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.

And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America -- the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.

At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot: Yes we can.

When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs, a new sense of common purpose: Yes we can.

When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved: Yes we can.

She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "we shall overcome": Yes we can.

A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination.

And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change: Yes we can...." -- Exerts from President-Elect Bararck Obama's Victory Speech

SIDEBAR HUMOR: November 5th Etiquette -- author unknown

After watching the final debate the other night, it dawned on me that Obama could actually win this thing. If that happens, there will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They'll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for signs of the end times.

To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and behaviors we should probably avoid - at least for the first few days:

1. No crying, hugging or shouting "Thank you Lord" - at least not
in public

2. No high-fives - at least not unless the area is clear and
there are no witnesses

3. No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters

4. No calling in sick on November 5th. They'll get nervous if too many of us don't show up.

5. We're allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard.

6. No singing loudly, We've come this Far By Faith (it will be acceptable to hum softly)

7. No bringing of barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chittlings at all) (this may make us seem to ethnic)

8. No leaving kool-aid packages at the water fountain (this might be a sign that poor folks might be getting a break through)

9. No Cupid Shuffle during breaks (this could indicate a little too much excitement)

10. Please no Moving on Up music (we are going to try to remain humble)

11. No doing the George Jefferson dance (unless you're in your
office with the door closed)

12. Please try not to yell----BOOOO YAH!

13. Just in case you're wondering, Doing the Running Man, cabbage
patch, or a backhand spring on the highway is 100% okay.

If I've missed anything feel free to add to the list. I just want to make sure we're all on the same page when Obama brings this thing home on November 5th.

Now go get your early vote on and let's make this thing happen!!!

"I Didn’t Vote For Obama" by Kentucky Scott

***Posted by Ladilovely on

"I’m a middle-class white guy living in Jacksonville , Florida . I’ve got a wife and two kids. Because the kids had no school today, I took a vacation day from work, and took the kids downtown to vote early. Fifty-nine minutes later, two smiling children and I proudly sported ‘I Voted’ stickers.
But I didn’t vote for Obama.

I voted for my ancestors, who believed in the promise of this country and came with nothing as immigrants. I voted for my parents, who taught in the public schools for decades. I voted for Steve, an acquaintance of mine from Kentucky . (Killed by an IED two years ago in Iraq ). I voted for Shawn, another who’s been to Iraq twice, and Afghanistan once, and who’ll be going back to Afghanistan again soon — and whose family earned eleven bucks a month too much to qualify for food stamps when the war started. I voted for April, the only African-American girl in my high school — it was years before it occurred to me how different her experience of our school must have been. I voted for my college friends who are Christian, Jewish, Mormon, and yes — Muslim. I voted for my grandfathers, who worked hard in factories and died too young. I voted for the plumber who worked on my house, because I want him to get a REAL tax break. I voted for four little angels from Birmingham . I voted for a bunch of dead white men who, although personally flawed, were willing to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, and used a time of great crisis to expand freedom rather than suspend it. I voted for all those people and more, and I voted for all of you, too.

But mostly, I voted selfishly: I voted for two little kids, one who has ballet in an hour, and one who has baseball practice at the same time. I voted for a world where they can be confident that their government will represent the best that is in this country, and that will in turn demand the best of them.

I voted for a government that will be respected in the world. I voted for an economy that will reward work above guile. I voted for everything I believe in. Sure, I filled in the circle next to the name Obama, but it wasn’t him I was voting for — it was every single one of us, and those I love most of all."

Full Interview with Ron Clark Kids

I am so proud of the students of Ron Clark Academy. I may have to look into this Academy for my children to attend.

Sidebar: If McCain would have taken Lil Willie the Student instead of Joe the (unlicensed) Plumber on the campaign trail, perhaps he would be leading in the polls. Lil Willie is much more intelligent than Joe the Plumber. Judge for yourself.

HONOLULU – Barack Obama's grandmother, whose personality and bearing shaped much of the life of the Democratic presidential contender, has died, Obama announced Monday, one day before the election. Madelyn Payne Dunham was 86.

Obama announced the news from the campaign trail in Charlotte, N.C. The joint statement with his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng said Dunham died late Sunday night at her Honolulu apartment after a battle with cancer.

"She's gone home," Obama said as tens of thousands of rowdy supporters at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte grew silent in an evening drizzle.

"And she died peacefully in her sleep with my sister at her side. And so there is great joy as well as tears. I'm not going to talk about it too long because it is hard for me to talk about." (Source)

CHICAGO (AP) -- Hundreds of mourners attended a private funeral service for Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson's slain mother, brother and nephew Monday at a South Side church.

A composed Hudson paused before the bodies of her relatives before giving her mother a final kiss, said attendees of the invitation-only service.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and the Rev. Jesse Jackson were among those who spoke at the three-hour service for Darnell Hudson Donerson, 57, Jason Hudson, 29, and Julian King, 7....

During the service, "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino sang the gospel song "Your Grace and Mercy," and at one point left the stage to take Jennifer Hudson's hand and sing directly to her, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Small blue tickets that read "Hudson Family Funeral" were needed to enter the massive Apostolic Church of God, but that didn't deter crowds of onlookers who gathered outside. (Source)

Record numbers of eligible voters have taken advantage of early voting, which is available in some states. I am proud of the record shattering voter turnout so far.

Tomorrow is the last day for me to take advantage of early voting in my state. I took advantage of early voting in the last election. But I must admit. I have not taken advantage of early voting this election. I can't say that I am undecided. I know exactly who I am voting for. Perhaps I do not trust the early voting process to register my vote this time. Sigh.

Sidebar: Why do I feel that this election will not be over on Tuesday due to voting machines malfunctioning and absentee ballots not being counted?? I miss New Jersey. Up until the time I relocated to another state, NJ was still using the old time voting machines. I have more confidence in them than I do the new electronic voting machines.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven…. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.... Ecclesiastes 3: 1 and 4

And there is a time to update my “Sit Your Azz Down” list.

It is official. I am adding Sandra Rose, creator of the famous and successful, to my “Sit Your Azz Down” list.

Sandra Rose is the first blogger to be added to my list. How did she win such a distinguished honor? I am glad you asked.

As many of you have read or heard by now, Oscar-winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7 year old nephew were murdered a few days ago. Several blogs, including Character Corner, posted information from various news agencies that covered this story. But Sandra Rose covered the story extensively. Not only did she update her readers on developments in the case, she also took the liberty of questioning Julia Hudson’s choice in a husband, hairdo and accepting friends on her Myspace page during such a horrible crisis in her life.

After Julia Hudson gave a passionate plea for the return of her son on Saturday, Sandra Rose felt that today was an opportune time to address Ms. Hudson's hairdo and demeanor during the press conference by writing the following on her blog:

“Questions first started to arise early Saturday morning when it appeared that Julia logged into her Myspace page to accept friend requests.

In an emotional plea Saturday for the safe return of her son, Julia King appeared well-rested and her hair was immaculately laid. Now I’m not judging Julia Hudson, but I can’t see a grieving mother sitting in a beauty salon for hours while her hair is curled and spritzed.

Add to this the fact that Julia reportedly returned home from work Friday to find the body of her mother lying on the living room floor. But Hudson is a school bus driver and Friday was a teacher work day in Chicago. Meaning, school was out for children. (Source)”

Then after reporting that the body of Julian King had been found, Sandra posted exerts from a post by another blogger, Ed Dunn, owner of, that supported Sandra Rose “going there” with regard to Julia Hudson’s “affinity for low life thug mentality.” Ed Dunn writes:

“To those comments and anyone else who think comments were unnecessary and uncalled for, I’ll be happy to answer that question – you damn right it was necessary and called for to point that out. There is a glorification in the Black community by Black women to date these thug scumbags and try to dismiss good brothas out there. Then when ish goes predictably bad, cats don’t want to talk about it. I’m tired of that kind of nonsense in the Black community – that’s why our communities are so f*cked up because people want to walk around pretending ish, playing with fire and act shocked when things go predictably wrong. (Source)”

In response to the above posts, I added the following comment to both Sandra’s and Mr. Ed’s sites:

"I concur with many of your blog supporters. Now is not the time to discuss Ms. Julia Hudson’s choice in men and myspace page updates. It is inappropriate and shows very little regard for the trauma that the she and Jennifer Hudson are experiencing at this present time.

Can we at least allow the Hudson family to bury their beloved family members before we pass judgment on them?? Is time of the essence to the point that man choice and myspace updates had to be addressed at this time?

I may have to add some bloggers (and anyone else who felt the need to address these issues at this particular time) to my “Sit Your Azz Down” list. Your actions are tantamount to embalming the bodies during the funeral services while their loved ones are present.

I am flabbergasted that anyone can be so cold and heartless or indifferent to the magnitude of these women’s loss.

Remember just because you think [it] does not mean you have to write or say it. Selah."

I understand that Sandra Rose is a well-known celebrity gossip blogger, but there are times like these when she should have used discretion and refrained from the thug luv-myspace updates-hairdo criticisms against a young woman trying to recover from the trauma of losing a mother, brother and child.

Hello, Sandra and Mr. Ed. This woman’s immediate family was senselessly wiped out, and you two want to talk about her choice in men and hairdo and myspace page updates.

I recommend that you both read Romans 12:15 which states, “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” Selah.

In the meantime, I am adding both of you to my “Sit Your Azz Down” list.

My blog buddy, Johnny, left the following comment on my previous post about Jennifer Hudson's family murders:

"Hey there AM, Johnny here, I live not too far from the Englewood area of Chicago where this all went down. If you read the report, there was a report of gunshots fired at 9AM that morning and police did not respond until 8 hours later at 3PM..... It is not the first time that the CPD has been lazy.... There have been times I have personally called more than once for gang activity taking place right outside my door and there has been an absence of police..... It is not that shocking, but the real tragedy here is that Jhud's brother was shot in the stomach, at 9AM which means his TOD was probably hours after the initial shooting. I wonder what would have happend had the police responded to the report of shots fired at 9 AM?"

I know this is not the time to talk about the police response time when Julian King is still missing, but Johnny brought up a great point. Why did it take so long for police officers to respond??? Did any of the neighbors call 911 to report hearing gunshots??? Have shootings become so common place in this area of Chicago that police and residents have become indifferent to hearing and responding to gunshots??

Remember when it was the "style" to wear clothes that covered your behind and your breast. Oh where have those dayz gone??

Last week female rapper Yo Yo (in the above music video), DJ Spiderella and MC Lyte were guests on the Frank and Wanda Morning Show (WVEE 103.3 Atlanta). From the looks of the Youtube videos of the show, all of the ladies are aging well. Listening to them talk about their careers reminded me of the void that exists in Hip Hop today. The rap field is void of good female rappers.

The Old School female rappers were more about empowering young women and teaching them to value their self worth. It seemed that female rappers were conscious of their influence on their younger female fan base.

However, as sex and violence hijacked the rap game, female rappers had to go from classy sexy (with their clothes on) to soft porn stars like Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown. From Nubian Queens to criminal-minded princesses like Charlie Baltimore. From ladies first to b*&%h crawl (remember that infamous beatdown scene in the movie Sparkle) Sigh.

I was sold on rap from the first time I heard Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang. However, when I heard female rapper Sha Rock rock her verses on That's The Joint by the Funky Four Plus More, I fell in love with rap music. The female of the "crew" brought that special something to the rap routine. That extra flavor for your ear.

Well, I want the female rappers to return with a vengeance. I want the void in Hip Hop to be filled with conscious female rappers that remind us that LADIES ARE FIRST.

MODERN DAY CHRISTIAN MARTYR is reporting that Gayle Williams, 34, was shot and killed today in Kabul by a Taliban gunman for preaching the Gospel to Afghans. Williams, who had dual British and South African citizenship, worked for SERVE Afghanistan (Serving Emergency Relief and Vocational Enterprise), an inter-denominational Christian charity that helps the disabled. She was killed while walking to work.

Mike Lyth, chairman for SERVE Afghanistan, stated that "[Williams] was a person who always loved the Afghans and was dedicated to serving those who are disabled."

According to, Williams was one of 23 expatriates who worked for SERVE Afghanistan, which also employs 450 Afghans in the country. (Source)

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has temporarily brought Attorneymom out of retirement with his endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States.

Powell, also a Republican and a retired U.S. general, cites Sen. Obama's "ability to inspire" and the "inclusive nature of his campaign" as reasons for his support.

According to CNN, "Powell [also] questioned Sen. John McCain's judgment in picking Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate because he doesn't think she is ready to be president. He also said he was disappointed with some of McCain's campaign tactics, such as bringing up Obama's ties to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers." (Source)

I am shocked by Colin Powell's public endorsement of Sen. Obama. I thought Powell would remain silent about his dissatisfaction with the Republican Party. I am sure there are many other high profile Republicans who feel the same way as Colin Powell.

Sidebar: I miss you all. I am now going back into retirement. LOL.

Donna Brazile Is Not Going To The Back of The Bus

"At the time where we're in crisis I want the the best, I want the brightest, I want somebody to take me where we've never been as a country. Perhaps we've been too stuck in the past that's why we can't go forward."

- Donna Brazile, American author, educator, and political activist and strategist.

Hypothetically Speaking

You are the second of your mother's three children.

You have two sisters - one slightly younger, the other slightly older. The only male, it's an unspoken rule in the household that whenever either of your sisters are in need of your help physically, you're a simple phone call away.

Last year, the live-in boyfriend of your older sister, choked her for a brief moment. In your mother's home. In front of your mother and other sister. Supposedly, a misunderstanding. All hell broke loose until order was finally restored.

Afterwards, a deafening silence overtook the entire room. One that spoke eerily of the boyfriend perhaps having death upon him. Of course you weren't present this particular day. Out of fear of knowing what you would have done to the boyfriend, both your mom and two sisters wisely kept this incident hidden from your ears.

Your standing in front of a judge and being sentenced to life is the last thing they would ever want too see. Besides, for whatever reasons, your sister somehow remained within the relationship. For the most part, her boyfriend treats her nice.

Fast forward one year later. One day, while you and your sister are standing inside your mom's kitchen helping to prepare food for a cookout, you notice what appears to be freshly-made fingernail marks engraved into the lower part of her neck.

You immediately bring these bruises to her attention. "Leah, who did this to you? Tell me."

Tears stream down her quiet and suddenly saddened face, she remains silent.

"Anthony?" you question, already knowing the answer.

She breaks down and starts crying profusely.

You stormed outside into the backyard where Anthony quietly sits awaiting his prepared plate. Your mom and a few family and friends are also gathered. Hardly anyone in the crowd notices the angered look which now sits upon your face, as you beeline directly towards the unknowing boyfriend.

In a fit of absolute rage, you pull the chair directly from underneath him, causing him to fall embarrassingly to the ground.

"You're putting hands on my sister?" Voice raised, as people rush to grab your arms and shoulders, attempting to hold you back.

Your sister has now made it outside, as well.

Her boyfriend stands, clearly shaken yet hardly afraid. "Why do you have a problem with anything that happens between me and your sister? She doesn't. If she did, she would have said something last year when I handled my business in front of your mother and your other sister. You see she's still with me, don't you?"

Question: What would you do if this happened to you?

McCain calls Obama "that one"

Barack Obama’s campaign did not like it when rival John McCain referred to the Illinois senator as “that one” during tonight’s presidential debate.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton sent a one-line message to reporters after McCain made the comment that said, “Did John McCain just refer to Obama as ‘that one’?”

And again at the conclusion of the debate, the Obama campaign emailed reporters,
“Did John McCain refer to Obama as ‘that one’?” (Source).

Barack Obama, it won't be too much longer now

After watching the second Presidential Debate last night I have come to one well-known conclusion - Barack Obama is the best man to lead this country during the next four years, at least. Nevermind the significant amount of politics that are or aren't involved. Let's look past the lack of experience on Obama's behalf for a moment.

Like McCain, regardless of what is or isn't being said at these debates, no one knows for sure what particular policies either man will be able to incorporate into their presidency. It's not like McCain or Obama has a magic wand or anything.

But what Barack Obama has, which I feel McCain lacks, is dignity and integrity - two characteristics which speak of a human being who is willing to go the extra mile in order to appease not only himself but those who depend on his tact.

No knock on McCain, but as I watched I couldn't help but notice how he tried his best to turn the event into something nasty, similar to his personality. McCain appears to be the type of gentleman who simply wants to prove his own personal points, even at the ignorant cost of others.

And this much was apparent while watching last night's debate.
