A LITTLE SUCCESS by Ralph Marston

Today can be your best day. This power is yours alone. Thank you, Lord, for this glorious day.

If you can't bring yourself to be positive about the big things, then be positive about the little things. That's easy enough to do, and it can make a surprisingly significant difference.

You're not going to solve the world's major problems before bedtime. And yet, you can surely make a little positive progress in your own way, and that can be a big help.

The little annoyances, distractions, challenges and difficulties in your world may seem minor when viewed separately. However, they can all add up to create a major negative drag on your life.

You can easily choose to rid yourself of those little negative influences, one by one. Before long, the positive effect will be dramatic.

If you spend the next few minutes doing nothing except worrying about your problems, you'll just end up even more anxious and worried. If, instead, you spend that same five minutes to overcome a relatively minor problem, you'll end up feeling a little more empowered and in control of your own destiny.

A little bit of success will motivate and inspire you, like nothing else can, to create a little more success, again and again. Soon, you'll discover that those little successes are adding up to a life of big and meaningful achievement.

What is on your mind today?? What is the hottest topic of discussion in your circle?

Update: Your thoughts may include venting about unpleasant thoughts. Feel free to let it rip!!

"Wisdom is a gift; you can't train for it, inherit it, learn it in a class, or earn it in the workplace — that access can foster the acquisition of knowledge, but not wisdom." ------- Toni Morrison

James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Attorneymom's Prayer: Father God, grant us the wisdom that we need to successfully complete your purpose for our lives. Deliver us from all ignorance and hardness of the heart and mind. For we acknowledge that both ignorance and hardness are barriers to growth and success.

EXPECT THE BEST by Ralph Marston

SIDEBAR: BEING CYNICAL IS TOO HARSH ON THE HEART!! It makes life unbearable and robs you of hope and joy. So expect and hope for the best. What do you have to loose by doing so? Attorneymom

Today's Daily Inspiration by Ralph Marston

We can show God that we truly love Him by the way we speak and live. May I be inspiring, Lord, and may everyone that I meet find You.

Some people make a practice of expecting the worst, in an effort to avoid being disappointed. Yet when you expect the worst you also focus on it and visualize it, thereby pushing yourself in a negative direction.

A more positive and effective strategy is to expect the best. Then build upon that expectation with preparation and action. Expect the best, and visualize, in great detail, your own participation in it. That puts you into a powerful frame of mind, orients you toward success, and brings your expectations to life.

Expect the best, and you enable yourself to recognize and make full use of the opportunities coming your way. Expect the best, while preparing to handle whatever may come along, and you'll be ahead of the game from the very beginning.

No, life will not always live up to your highest expectations. Yet when the disappointments do come, choose even then to expect the best eventual outcome, and you're much more likely to get it.

Base your expectations on the best that you can imagine for every situation. More often than not, you'll go precisely where you expect to go.

“Education without the ability to use good basic common sense is useless. Both are crucial to an individual's quality of life and overall well-being.” Attorneymom

Thanks to the urging of Professor Tracy (Aunt Jemima's Revenge), it is official. I am adding both Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his Chief of Staff Christine Beatty to my “SIT YOUR AZZ DOWN” list.

During a whistle-blower trial brought by two fired Detroit police officers, Mayor Kilpatrick and Ms. Beatty denied having an adulterous affair. However, 14,000 text messages retrieved from Beatty's city-issued pager proved that both Kilpatrick and Beatty both perjured themselves during their trial testimony last summer. The false testimony could possibly expose both parties to felony perjury charges.

The Plaintiffs, former Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown and former Police Officer and Mayoral bodyguard Harold Nelthrope, accused Kilpatrick of retaliating against them because of their roles in an internal affairs investigation of the Mayor's security team -- a probe that potentially could have exposed the affair. The trial cost the cash-strapped City more than $9 million. (Source).

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise

I rise
I rise.

Zig Ziglar - inspirational words of wisdom

This youtube video contains the inspirational sayings of Zig Ziglar. Read each saying at the bottom of the video. The musical arrangement that accompanies the video is very soothing. Enjoy.

I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs
you in the way you should go.
Isaiah 48:17

Allow your heart to seek the good things in this life and trust that, even
our mistakes can be turned into a blessing.
Submit all things to God in
prayer, knowing that He hears and is responding. Regardless of the
situation, we will witness Him skillfully weaving each experience into
something beautiful and good, if we dare to place our faith and trust in
Him. When we feel as if we are backed against a wall, we need to gather the
courage to trust in His strength. When we feel confused and alone, we need
not be afraid to hope for better days, placing complete confidence in God,
rather than our circumstance. Let go of the mindset that says the situations
we face need to be handled "our way" and allow God to order your steps, and
then walk in them. Knowing in our heart, He loves us and longs to gather us
in His arms. His ways are perfect and flawless. He will be our defender and
we will always find a safe haven in Him.

I place my faith in You today Lord, asking that You direct each step I take.
Give me the wisdom, strength, and faith to hope for great things. I trust
that as I submit all things to You, You will take each experience and create
good things from them. Turn the blunders into blessings in my life, and open
my eyes to the possibilities. I give You all the praise, honor and glory.

Bill Clinton honors MLK by falling asleep

Sidebar: I guess Bill Clinton also had a dream. LOL

Stop sabotaging your own success and health with your thoughts, words and actions. Learn to love and appreciate everything about you. Embrace your failures and successes. Learn to see yourself from the eyes of compassion and love. You are going to make. Be encouraged.

Prayer: Father God, helps us to forgive ourselves. Give us the strength and wisdom to make it through the self-imposed storms in our lives. Knowing that you have not disregarded your prodigal sons and daughters. Please remove all barriers that prevent us from seeking refuge in your loving and healing arms. Help us to live according to your will and not our own will. Help us to surrender all to you today. It is in Jesus' name that I pray. Amen.

TODAY'S DEVOTION (author unknown)

Proverbs 19:21: Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.

God is much greater than our finite minds can fathom. Regardless of how educated we are or how much knowledge we gain we simply are not capable of grasping all He is. As we seek His purpose for our lives, we must remember it is His purpose and not our own. So many times our need to be in control can blind us from His purpose; we seek our own solutions, opinions and ideas about what His will is. They all pale in comparison to His perfect way. We will not find God's will for our lives until we are willing and able to accept it. We have to trust His guidance completely and be willing to surrender ourselves totally, moment by moment in even the smallest of matters. If we neglect the wisdom of His guidance we can find ourselves working real hard yet doing all the wrong things.

Prayer: Thank You for choosing me. You are greater than my mind is able to comprehend, and apart from You I am nothing. All that I am and hope to be I find in You. I surrender myself completely to You and I seek Your guidance moment by moment. I understand it is not about me, and my ability, but Your ability to create value and purpose within my life, Amen.

ENJOY YOUR COFFEE (author unknown)

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, were
talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university
professor, now retired. During their visit, the conversation soon turned
into complaints about stress in their work and lives.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and
returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups --
porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain-looking, some expensive,
some exquisite -- telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the alumni had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said,
“Notice that all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving
behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only
the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most
cases, it is just more expensive, and, in some cases, even hides what we

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups, and then you began eyeing each
other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; your job, money, and position in
society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The
type of cup one has does not define, nor change, the quality of life a
person lives. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to
enjoy the coffee God has provided us.”

God makes the coffee, man chooses the cups. The happiest people don't
have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

Enjoy your coffee.

100 years ago today, a group of nine Howard University female students under the leadership of Ethel Hedgeman Lyle formed Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

"The small group of women who organized the Sorority was conscious of a privileged position as college-trained women of color, just one generation removed from slavery. They were resolute that their college experiences should be as meaningful and productive as possible. Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded to apply that determination.

[Today,] Alpha Kappa Alpha’s influence extends beyond campus quads and student interest. It has a legacy of service that deepens, rather than ends, with college graduation.

Since 1908, the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha has responded to the world’s increasing complexity. It continues to empower communities through exemplary service initiatives and progressive programs."

YOUR ACTIONS by Ralph Marston

Today's Daily Inspiration
Prayer is a great source of joy and the best protection from depression. When we talk, Lord, You help me see solutions for a better day.

Your actions

Whether something is possible or impossible for you depends more on what you do about it than on any other factor. Your persistent, focused action is what brings possibilities to life.

Certainly there are obstacles that stand in your way. And you can choose to use those obstacles as excuses for not taking action.

Or, you can choose to get up, get motivated and get busy working your way toward the results you seek. Once you begin to take action, the obstacles lose their power to stop you and instead become steps along the pathway to achievement.

The actions necessary for success can often seem to be difficult, complicated, inconvenient, embarrassing, uncomfortable, tiresome or demeaning. Realize that those undesirable qualities are, for the most part, mere inventions of your mind, and your choice to take action will override them every time.

When you know what you must do, then go ahead and make it happen. Stop focusing on the excuses and start moving toward real, valuable achievement.

Your actions have the power to change your life and to change your world. Make full use of them, and fulfill your greatest dreams.

Consequences are superb teachers. Their lessons touch you profoundly and stay with you for life.

Many of the abstract concepts you come across are quickly forgotten. The consequences you experience, on the other hand, are nearly impossible to forget.

Through consequences you learn, in a personally meaningful way, what works and what doesn't. Through consequences you learn what's important and why.

Both the painful consequences and the joyful ones are quite memorable. Most importantly, not only do you remember the consequences, you also remember what specific thoughts and actions brought you to them.

You have the magnificent ability to make things happen, to create your own consequences. The more you learn from the experience of your consequences, the more reliably you're able to create the precise outcomes you desire.

Everything you do has a consequence, and every consequence has a lesson. Learn well, and create all the best you can envision.

I guess the indictment against Bishop Thomas Weeks was not dead docketed after all. According to Atlanta Fox 5 News, Bishop Weeks, Juanita Bynum and their attorneys met with Prosecutors today to discuss a possible plea deal. Bishop Weeks was indicted for allegedly beating his estranged wife in August 2007. Weeks is scheduled to stand trial next month.

NO WORRY by Ralph Marston

Here's a simple, easy way to make an immediate and profound improvement in the quality of your life. Stop worrying.

The next time you catch yourself wrapping your mind around a worry, choose to let that worry fall completely away. Notice how much more positive and effective you suddenly are.

Worry poisons your thoughts and keeps life's best opportunities hidden from you. Worry actually increases the power and influence of those undesirable things you worry about.

Certainly it's important to look clearly and realistically at life's dangers, problems and challenges. Yet there is nothing to be gained by worrying about them.

Choose to replace each negative worry with positive action. Instead of looking down, pick yourself up and move forward.

Every moment is filled with countless opportunities to create lasting value. Stop worrying, and start living with richness, purpose and real joy.

Today's Daily Inspiration

We have many doors, but it is our choice which one to open. Lord, bless me with the wisdom to make the best of my daily life.
There was a time when you thought you could change the world. You were right, and you still are.

There was a time when you knew that life was filled with limitless possibilities. It still is, and so are you.

Perhaps you're dismayed that so much time has passed without much noticeable progress. Yet the longer you've waited to move forward, the more quickly and powerfully you can do so when you choose to start.

To change the world, and to fulfill your greatest possibilities, does not require anything from your past. It's a matter of making a choice, in the present, to act with positive purpose.

Now is the place where your life resides. And now is what you choose to make it.

With a thankful, joyful heart, look around you at the possibilities that stretch out in all directions. Choose one of those possibilities now, and proceed to lovingly give life to it.

Congratulation to Senator Hillary Clinton on winning the New Hampshire Primary.

During her victory speech, Senator Clinton stated that for the first time in her life she found her voice while listening to New Hampshire voters on this past week. Well, she did in fact seem to be more connected to her humanity. That is, until she had to glance down at her written speech to read the names of the two most important people in her life, which are Bill and Chelsea. LOL.

She did win a point with me tonight by mentioning the predatory practices of Student Loan Companies. As many of you know, I hate student loan debt. It is another form of economic slavery. It has caused me great grief in my life. Like many of you, I am just tired of the burden.

So in the spirit of correcting the injustices caused by the predatory practices of Student Loan Companies, I am starting a Payoff Student Loan Debt Campaign. Once I am free, I have to free the next person. That person will have to free the next. And so on. And so on. Support the cause. Tell a benevolent friend.

We should never forget how favored and truly blessed we really are. I believe that it is in looking at the difficulties of others that we see how minuscule our troubles are and how much we have to be thankful for.

When we focus on our own issues, it is easy to get down and discouraged and think the weight of the world is on our shoulders, but if we change our thinking and look at the greater difficulties of others, we will soon find that our troubles cannot even compare.

Be encouraged to train yourself to look at the good in your life and make it a habit to be thankful for everything God has given you.

It is in our praise and thankfulness to the Lord that our own hearts become full with peace and joy and a knowing that All Will Be Well.

"Worry looks around, sorry looks back, Faith looks up."

In the darkest darkness, love is more magnificent than ever. In the deepest sadness, hope has the strength to create anything.

When the whole world is against you, every positive action can bring miraculous results. When the burden of being is unbearably heavy, the spirit can fly to infinite heights.

If all is lost, there is no end to what can be gained. Completely let go of everything, and you surely do have it all.

The more confusing and noisy and complicated the world becomes, the more power there is in stillness. When the day is filled with harshness, gentle actions grow more powerful and effective.

In a world filled with fear, truth gains new clarity. In a time of severe discontent, the possibilities for real joy grow ever greater.

At the deepest level, goodness always prevails. For truth by its very nature will not be denied.

Shecodes, as promised, I have finally updated my post to congratulate both former Gov. Mike Huckabee and Senator Barack Obama for winning the Iowa Caucus for their respective parties.

Sheecodes is doing a great job giving Black Women a voice in this Presidential election through the Black Women Vote! blog.

It is imperative that we, as Black Women, make our presence known this election. We are more than just a vote. We are individuals who are ready to sit at the policy making table to let the "powers that be" know that our vote will come with accountability.

We are not just seeking any kind of change. We are seeking a change that will have a direct and positive impact on the Black community.
