Kandi Burruss will discuss the passing of ex-fiancee Ashley "AJ" Jewell on Real Housewives of Atlanta Season Finale. One thing that has surprised me about AJ's death is the silence from the media. No one is talking about it. Not the AJC or gossip blogs (at least, not the three I visit). Def Jam's executive Shakir Stewart's "alleged" suicide was treated the same way. Blank stare.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Thanks to Soror Delisia Carter for teaching us how to fly. RIP

Eagles are not meant to fly with pigeons and chickens because their flying altitude is too low. Today, I take my rightful place as an Eagle and am leaving the pigeons and chickens behind. I apologize to God and myself for acting like a pigeon and chicken when I was born to be an eagle. Selah. (by Attorneymom)

Store clerk Angela Montez believes it was divine intervention that led a would-be robber to give up his heist and talk and pray with her for nearly 40 minutes Monday before turning himself in to Indianapolis police hours later.

"I believe the Lord sent us both together," Montez told "Good Morning America" today. "The more we talked, he just broke down. ... He said, 'Talk to me. No one will talk to me. I have nobody.'"

Surveillance cameras recorded video of an armed man, alleged to be the suspect, 23-year-old Gregory L. Smith of Indianapolis, jumping over the counter at a check cashing store where Montez worked and pointing a gun at her Monday. Montez, fearing for her life, broke down, crying and praying.

"I can't even explain the feeling of a gun," she said. "I remember looking at the silver gun, and the finger was on the trigger. I thought, 'This is it.'"

On September 23, 2009, I called into The Manning Report to check Pastor Manning for disrespecting another Black sister. I subsequently uploaded the call in a series of videos on Youtube. In video #5 of this series, Pastor Manning and I discussed how Black celebs do not use Black attorneys to represent them in their career. I had an “Aw-ha” moment when Pastor Manning said the following:

Pastor Manning: “We are going to have to go to God and ask the Lord, “Well, you know Lord, you know I mean, why can’t I have a major law firm? And you might hear God say something like, “Well, you know if your customers that are Black will pay you and would respect you and would pay on time; or if these professional business people paying their business entertainment attorneys 10% of their gross making them instant millionaires. If you just got a couple of those Black folks making all that money, you would have a major firm as well. So rather than arguing with those white men who are making less money than some white freelance attorney representing Jay-Z or representing Snoop Doggie. We have to look at this carefully.“

My blog step sista, Sandra Rose, is hosting a series of live chats with various celebs on her blog During these live chats her loyal readers are allowed to ask each celeb questions. The first chat took place with R&B (real talent) Monica on last Thursday. The second live chat with Kandi Buruss (former member of Xscape, Famous song writer and newest member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta) occurred on this past Tuesday. Sidebar: If given the opportunity, I will continue to ask each celebrity that participates in the SR live chat the same question: “Are you represented by a Black/African American/Negro/Afro American/Colored attorney?

I was fortunate enough to have both celebrities to answer my question regarding whether they were being represented by Black attorneys. Both said, “No.”

Then a regular reader of SR wrote the following comment on the SR Ludacris Sued For Legal Fees post:

Charles Says:
Black attorneys other than my father are incompetent

My sister found that out the hard way! I would recommend white lawyers, jewish, white, maybe indian definatley asian

This mentality is shared by many Black folks. When the Jewish and Italian lawyers screw them, they just go and get another Jewish or Italian lawyer to represent them. But if a Black attorney screws up, then they indict every black attorney as being incompetent and then proceed to hire a Jew or Italian to represent them.

Remember the Jewish dollar is turned over at least 7 times before it leaves their community. The Black dollar turns only once. Selah.

The following are highlights from both live chats.

**********************Monica’s live chats**********

Attorneymom says:
I just have two questions:
1. Do you have a Black Attorney and/or Accountant?
2. If yes, do you have any outstanding balances with them?

Monica says,
Hi attorney mom. My attorney is jewish and hes been with me for a decade. i do not owe him money. lol. but my accountant is a black man named Preston. Hes the best , he taught me about investing and helped me protect all the important things that i worked the last 15 years for. and no i dont owe him either. lol

Attorneymom says,
Monica, thanks for answering my question.
Remember, you can really sing. All you need is a mic. You don’t need all the foolishness when you are stage. Save your money and your energy. Just sing.

Monica says:
thanks attorney mom. im on it.

**************Kandi’s live chat**************************

Attorneymom says:
I guess I am tardy for the party.
I have one question for Kandi: Do you have an Attorney who is Black or African American, whichever you prefer?

Kandi Burruss says:
@attorneymom Black & African American is the same right? but my attorney is Jewish

Attorneymom says:
@Kandi, Yes, Black and African American are the same.

I must give out a Punkazz Aunt Award. The award goes to Marilyn Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee. Ms. Wilson’s two nephews – Ages 2 and 3- were left home alone while their mother and Ms. Wilson dropped off a friend. A fire broke out in the home and the 3-year-old died while the 2-year-old is in critical condition. (Click here for complete story)

When interviewed by a Fox News reporter, the teeth missing Marilyn Wilson said she had no regrets about leaving the children unsupervised. “I really need to get in there to see if my purse burned up. I had my Food Stamp Card and everything in there.

Marilyn Wilson, you are definitely a punkazz great aunt. I am shaking my damn head on this one.

Thanks to and Conservative Black Woman for bringing this story to my attention.

Hip Hop Honors 2009: Def Jam Meets Scripture

Bishop Thomas Weeks III and Prophetess Christina Glenn appeared on the The Lexi Show to discuss their love for each other.

After watching their interview, I am starting to like Bishop Weeks. I truly believe that Juanita Bynum Part I set him up. (Click here to see what I mean) Homegirl's ego was too big to be a wife. Being a wife takes a certain level of humility that many women who have lived on their own for awhile do not possess because they already know that they can make it on their own and therefore will drop a man like a "hot potato" if he tries to control her in anyway.

Anyways, I hope Prophetess Christina has read all Bishop Week's books (including the book written by him and Juanita Part I) and reviewed all the Youtube videos to learn exactly what he wants.

I hope they both understand that you cannot stop dating once you get married. Whatever it took to win your spouse's heart, it is going to take that and then some to keep them. Do not start what you cannot continue after the marriage. Selah.

I hope they both do not allow vain ambition to ruin another marriage. The world is watching both of them. Keep the demons of lust, pride, lies and lasciviousness out of your marriage and you will make it until death (not divorce) do you part.

Part I

I am about to loose my mind up in here. Thanks to Michelle creator of Straight From the A, I have found a Hip Hop website where I can share my love for Old School Hip Hop (you know, the Hip Hop music that did not send the Civil Rights Movement back a thousand years). The website is Check it out.

My blog Sista Michelle also interviewed one of my favorite Rap Duos (next to Salt n Pepa and Run DMC, of course), Kid N Play. I think I am just going to lay on the right now.

Yesterday, Ashley "AJ" Jewell was laid to rest. Bravo posted a tribute video which shows AJ Jewell playing football with his very young son.

I became deeply sadden as I watched this video. I am sad that 6 children are left fatherless because two men could not control their tempers. Just say No to thugging.

UPDATE: According to, A judge today denied bond for the suspect in the slaying of a Spelman College sophomore last month. During a hearing that lasted less than a minute, Magistrate Judge Sylvia McCoy ordered Devonni Manuel Benton to appear at a hearing Oct. 21 in Fulton Superior Court. McCoy read the charges against Benton: Murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. (Source)

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have arrested a 21-year-old man in the death of Spelman College student Jasmine Lynn.

Police say Devonni M. Benton was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and was charged with murder and aggravated assault. They say they don't know if he has obtained a lawyer.

Channel 2 Action News photographer Tony Light was at police headquarters when Benton was transferred to the Fulton County Jail.

"I didn't shoot nobody," Benton said.

Witnesses identified Benton as the gunman, according to Lt. Keith Meadows of the Atlanta Police Department.

The 19-year-old student from Kansas City, Mo., was killed early on Sept. 3 when she was struck by one of six shot fired by someone in a group involved in an altercation on the street as she walked along the Clark Atlanta University campus with a group of friends.(Source)

The attorney for the man accused of killing Ashley “A.J.” Jewell said the former fiancé of one of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” started the fight that led to his own death following a brawl in the parking lot of a strip club.

Dennis Scheib, who is representing accused killer Frederick Richardson, said the a verbal disagreement escalated when Jewell “pulls a gun” on Richardson and then “slaps him around.” Scheib said Jewell threw the first punch in a “one -on-one” fight Friday evening outside the Body Tap club.

Jewell died later that night at Piedmont Hospital

Richardson, who suffered a black eye and broken fingers in the fight, is charged with voluntary manslaughter and is to make his first court appearance at the Fulton County Jail Tuesday morning.

Police said Jewell died of massive head trauma but Scheib said no cause of death has been determined. Scheib said preliminary autopsy results do not suggest a head injury and that the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office is waiting on toxicology results. (Source)

Chris Rock has just been hit with a $5 Million dollar lawsuit over his upcoming Good Hair documentary. According to TMZ, Regina Kimbell is accusing Rock of stealing his idea from her 2005 documentary, “My Nappy Roots” and says that she showed him her film back in 2007 on the set of his TV series, “Everybody Hates Chris”. She has since filed suit in U.S. District Court in downtown L.A., and seeks no less than $5 million dollars!

Kimbell’s documentary features celebs who discuss styles like the conk, the Afro, the Jheri curl and dreadlocks while Rock’s film also uses celebs to look at the efforts black women use to get that European look. (Source)

Memo to Chris Rock and his attorneys: Please settle quickly!!! From the Youtube video below (which was posted on Youtube on April 23, 2007), you definitely stole Ms. Kimbell's idea.

I hate to question God but don’t you hate when you feel like somebody was just taken away too soon? I just feel like A.J just had so much more living to do. Not that my Uncle didn’t, don’t get me wrong, but it just don’t feel right that A.J’s TIME is over.

There was so much that he wanted to do. When I spoke to him yesterday I never thought that it would be for the last TIME! A.J had a great spirit and he was a good man. He was a father of six kids but had other children that he raised and loved like his own, including mine. So AJ was a father to many. It truly bothered him the way he has been portrayed in the media and actually it has bothered me too. AJ was NOT a “Scrub” like so many people like to blog and say. He had his own when we got together. He did not need me for financial gain, nor did he use me to gain some type of celebrity. When we got together we had no clue that we would be on t.v.. In all actuality, A.J hated and was uncomfortable with being on camera. He also hated that we made the decision to be on the show. Off camera A.J was very charismatic and a friend to many. He believed in God and always genuinely tried to do the right thing....(Source)

I know I am late on commenting on Plaxico Burress' sentencing - forgive me. After watching the video of him walking into the courtroom while holding his son, I am brought to tears. To make it even worst, he and his wife are expecting a daughter and he won't be home for her birth. And for what?? All because he wanted to keep "real" and enter a club with a loaded weapon. SMDH Did he learn that from Duffle Bag Gremlin or Earl G. Graves Sr.??

I don't know who will be the Punkazz Parent Of the Year. He and Frankie (Keyshia Coles' momma) are running neck and neck right now.

Sidebar: I do not know who is more dumb - Plaxico or the TMZ reporter/paparazzi filming him. When will he get a real job?? SMDH

Upon learning the news of the sudden death of Kandi Burruss's former fiancé A.J., Ed Hartwell, "RHOA" costar Lisa Wu's Hartwell's husband, expressed his condolences.

"I haven't known A.J. for a long time, but in the short time we were around each other during taping we've gotten to know each other better," Hartwell told exclusively. "We had many conversations while playing cards, working out and taping. A.J. said that he admired my relationship with Lisa and asked several questions pertaining to marriage because he wanted to be a good husband for Kandi. We also talked about raising kids. I realized that A.J. was a good man trying to do what was right. He was a cool person. He was a father, he was a son, he was a brother, he was a friend. He will be missed. I will keep his family and Kandi in my prayers."

According to

ATLANTA -- Kandi Burruss, the newest cast member of the hit reality show, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” is coping with the tragic death of her fiance, A.J., who has been featured regularly on the show.

Burruss' publicist, Lisa Nelson, confirmed to reporter Brian Johnson that the incident has left the Atlanta housewife stunned and speechless. Nelson, who represented Burruss during the taping of the show, told Johnson that the family is asking for privacy during this very difficult time.

Burruss, an award-winning singer-songwriter and former member of the ’90s R&B group Xscape, has had numerous disagreements with her mother on the show over her relationship with A.J.

Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News that A.J. received a severe head injury from a fight at The Body Tap Club in the 1200 block of Marietta Blvd. in Atlanta.

Police didn't have a motive for the altercation, but the investigation is still under way.

Atlanta police charged a strip club employee with voluntary manslaughter Saturday in the beating death of the former fiancé of the newest member of the reality television show The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, who was engaged to Kandi Burruss until last August, died of massive head injuries at Piedmont Hospital. He was fatally injured in a "one-on-one" fight with Fredrick Richardson Friday night, police said.

Richardson also was injured as the two exchanged blows outside the strip bar, the Body Tap Club, Friday night. Richardson was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he will remain until doctors say he can be discharged. Then Richardson will be taken to the Fulton County Jail, according to police spokesman Officer James Polite.(Source)

Last night, Ashley Jewell aka AJ, the ex-fiancée of Kandi Burruss who is the newest cast member on this season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, was savagely beaten to death at a popular strip club here in Atlanta.

AJ's death comes on the heels of the murder of Chicago honor student Derrion Albert, whose murder was recorded for the world to witness. And Derrions death comes weeks after the murder of Spellman College student Jasmine Lynn, who was gunned down on Clark Atlanta University campus as she walked with friends. Jasmine left for college in her car, but returned home in a coffin.

Black community, it is time to arise, use our God-given talents, money, influence, education and religion; come out of our comfort zones, roll up our sleeves and take action against these demons that are trying to destroy the Black Family. It is time to stop praying for God to do for us what we have the power and are equipped to do for ourselves. We can change this course of self destruction that is plaguing our community. Lets unite and be prepared to fight. Arise today, Black Community and demonstrate your God given power.

When? by Shwana Ruth-Bridges aka Attorneymom
When are we going to stop this madness and come together?
So that we can make our lives, our African American lives, a whole lot better.

When are we going to stop hurting our sisters and brothers,
And learn to get along with one another?

When are we going to stop being slaves to material possession?
KNOWLEDGE and EDUCATION are the keys of life, this is a true confession.

With fine clothing we nurture our skin.
But what about our souls that dwell within?

When are we going to take a look at that man or that woman in the mirror and stop blaming others for our mistakes?
Learn from them that is all it takes.

When are we going to give our sisters and brothers credit where it is due?
Instead of putting them down because you wished it was you.

When are we going to Wake Up and Learn from ancestors never to give up?
Will this be before we self destruct?

The 37-year-old woman who wound up in a coma following ``routine liposuction'' Friday at an unlicensed medical facility in Weston did not experience complications until the very end of the procedure, said a defense attorney representing the doctor who performed the surgery.

Attorney Brian Bieber said Wednesday that his client, Dr. Omar J. Brito, a licensed doctor, performed liposuction on Rohie Kah-Orukotan, who had been a regular customer at the spa for about five years.

``The surgery was routine,'' Bieber said. ``There were no complications throughout the entire procedure until the end.''

Bieber declined to describe the complications, but said Brito performed ``immediate emergency services, and then called 911'' after the procedure on the Miramar woman went awry....

Kah-Orukotan's husband, Joseph Orukotan, declined to comment while he struggles with the question of whether to keep her on life support, said Chuck Malkus, a spokesman for the family. ``The family is dealing right now with a decision that is inevitable and most likely will take place tomorrow,'' Malvus said. Kah-Orukotan has three children, ages 4, 5 and 7.

Sidebar: I tried to explain to Dr. Pastor James Manning how if you have once ounce of black blood (i.e., at least one parent of Negro descent), then you are considered a Negro. Perhaps he will listen to Judge Mathis.

From 2 Timothy 3:1-17:

Perilous Times and Perilous Men
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

The Man of God and the Word of God

10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
